Whilst winter in South East Queensland is not as bitter as our southern cousins endure, as spring comes around, it’s a great time to change up your routine and embrace all that this beautiful time of the year has to offer. Here are five ways to enjoy the change of season:
-
Greet the sun
As we move from winter into spring in SE Queensland the sun rises by 6 am which makes it easier to be up to greet the new day. We all like to hibernate and sleep a little later in the winter (if we can) and spring is a great time to be up with the sun. A 20-minute walk around the block – or sitting on the verandah with a cup of tea or coffee so soak in the quiet of the day and watch the sunrise.
-
Make a move
Local councils have some great programs to get you active and most activities are free. Brisbane City Council offers:
- Seniors and GOLD Events
- Cardio, HIIT and strength classes
- Events for the adventurous
- Events for Kids
- Yoga Classes
- Classes in the pool
With many of the programs run in public parks across the Southeast, spring is a great time to enjoy the outdoors and you may even make some new friends.
-
Menus that motivate
As the weather warms up and we shift from warming casseroles and soups for dinner to lighter meal options, head to the local library or online for some menu inspiration. Did you know that by planning your menu for the week ahead and shopping for only those ingredients you need you can save not only time but dollars? Spring is also a great time to do a pantry detox – if you are interested in reducing your consumption of additives and preservatives this is a great place to start.
-
Workshop your wardrobe
As the weather warms up making sure you store your winter coats, jumpers, and scarves safely ensures they will not only be out of the way for summer, but also in good shape for next year. Take the time to launder and store them safely away from moths and silverfish – vacuum storage bags are a great idea and slide easily under beds and into cupboards saving space. While you’re at it why not KonMari your clothes to save both space and allow you to easily see t-shirts and pants in your drawers. Here’s how to do it – we know you will be addicted!
-
Expand your mind
Spring is also a great time to layer something new into your routine. Have you been meaning to read more? Head to the library and make a habit of going every fortnight to borrow new books – spend the last 10 minutes before you go to sleep reading rather than scrolling. Find some new podcasts to listen to whilst you exercise, cook or do the housework. Or just take the time to put some of your favourite music on whilst you are in the car or at home. It’s amazing what a difference these little things can make to your mental health and your mood.
