The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) will start in Queensland from 1 July 2016 and will be fully implemented by 30 June 2019. The NDIS will transform the way people with disability access disability care and supports, and revolutionise the way disability supports are funded and delivered.

When the roll-out is completed in 2019, around 97,000 Queenslanders with significant or profound disability will have choice and control over the support they receive. The NDIS will also bring exciting opportunities for mainstream services, and the broader community.

The Next Steps include:

  • Communication and engagement activities for people with disability, their family and carers and providers
  • Workshops for providers across the state, including in regional, rural and remote communities, to build awareness of the NDIS and how to prepare to operate in a new competitive market-driven disability system
  • Expand opportunities for people to have more choice and control over their disability services
  • Targeted activities to support people with disability, families and carers to prepare for the NDISTargeted activities to support providers to prepare for the NDIS
